One-Day Hiking Itinerary: Gergeti Trinity Church to Gergeti Glacier

Breakfast at the hotel  

Beginning at 08:30 The road to Stepantsminda, where our ascent will begin

11:00 Departure from Stepantsminda (Kazbegi)

Options: Walk (7 km, 1.5–2 hours) or take a taxi to the Trinity Church of Gergeti  Arrival at the Trinity Church in Gergeti. Altitude above sea level: ~445 meters Travel time to the church: 2 hours climbing from Stepantsminda. 

Visit the famous 14th century church with panoramic views of Mount Kazbek.​ We begin the ascent to the Gergeti glacier. The beginning of the route: Follow the marked path behind the church. Route options: Choose between a valley or a mountain range; the mountain range offers the best view, but it is more challenging.

Distance to glacier: 6 km Estimated time: 3-4 hours Climb: 1130 meters​  Reach Gergeti Glacier Altitude above sea level: 3300 meters Highlights: Take a look at the impressive Gergeti Glacier at the foot of Mount Kazbek. 

Enjoying the breathtaking views 

We begin the descent. Route options: Return along the same trail or climb the newly built stairs behind the church to get a different experience. Estimated time: 3-4 hours
